Position Summary
The Classroom Instructor - Computer Lab supports the effective operation of the school's computer lab and assists students and teachers in integrating technology into the learning environment. Under the supervision of a certificated teacher or administrator, the aide helps students with computer-based learning activities, ensures proper use and care of equipment, and provides technical and instructional support during lab sessions. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, organized, patient, and passionate about fostering digital literacy among students.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
- Experience working with children in any of the following: school, daycare, church, day camp, youth group, private school, licensed day-care center, or similar.
- Valid educational aide certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprint background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Plan, deliver, and manage computer-based instruction aligned with curriculum standards and instructional goals.
- Lead instruction in the computer lab using educational software, digital tools, and instructional technology to support student learning.
- Assess student skill levels and determine appropriate placement and progression within instructional software and programs.
- Monitor, document, and analyze student progress to inform instruction and report outcomes.
- Design and maintain an engaging, organized, and instructionally supportive computer lab environment, including bulletin boards and displays.
Classroom & Student Management
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive learning environment in the computer lab.
- Manage student behavior and ensure appropriate use of technology in accordance with school policies.
- Supervise students during scheduled lab time and assigned school duties, including arrival, dismissal, lunchroom, bus, and playground supervision.
- Support students with diverse learning needs and communicate student progress, concerns, or accommodations as appropriate.
Technology & Lab Management
- Oversee daily operations of the computer lab to ensure functionality, safety, and instructional readiness.
- Install, update, and maintain instructional software following technical guidelines and procedures.
- Perform routine computer system backups and basic troubleshooting of hardware and software issues.
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs of computer equipment when needed.
- Manage inventory, care, and proper use of technology equipment and materials.
Other
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and instructional staff to support student learning goals and technology integration.
- Communicate student needs, progress, and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide orientation and instructional support to substitute teachers assigned to the computer lab.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to student instruction and technology use.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
- Comply with all district routines and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
- Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard instructional equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds).
