Job Description Summary
The Office for Undergraduate Students (OUS) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides academic career and professional development, retention, and student support services to all liberal arts and sciences undergraduate students. Currently, we seek to hire Undergraduate Peer Career Coaches (PCCs) who will provide career and professional development support to their fellow students through one-on-one advising, group workshop opportunities, and on-campus engagement.
PCCs will be trained to work individually and in small group settings with students to provide individual résumé and other professional correspondence reviews, communicate the importance of mentorship and networking, strategize and action plan for the internship and job search process, provide support and guidance throughout the interviewing processes, curate conversations centered around exploring interest areas, attend virtual and in-person student career and professional development events, promote CLAS professional development services, and complete other related tasks as assigned.
PCCs are encouraged to engage in continuing education opportunities to further their own professional development, such as LinkedIn learning courses, professional development workshops, leadership trainings, etc. To deepen engagement in the program, PCCs can participate in add-on experiences such as creating and delivering presentations in academic courses, planning and executing events, and much more.
Requirements
Undergraduate student standing. Must be genuinely interested in providing student career and professional development support to peers. Must be dedicated, dependable, reliable, willing to learn, flexible, and adaptable, and attentive to detail. Must be able to work equally well collaboratively and independently. Must be available to participate in ongoing training sessions. Must be able to devote five hours each week to the position. Must maintain strict confidentiality when handling student data.
Additional Information
If hired, students must work with the Human Resources department to provide the necessary documentation for the onboarding process. Additional outreach will take place to communicate what the appropriate documentation includes. Please note that when providing this documentation, copies will not be accepted. Human Resources will need the original form of your documentation.
