Position Summary:
The Claims Specialist serves the organization as both a legal and business specialist, focusing on support of claims management and other legal related matters. The Claims Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of law-related tasks including, but not limited to processing and distributing subpoenas and other legal documents, responding to legal requests for information, and scheduling of depositions of employed physicians and team members.
Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
• Receive and analyze legal requests for information in multiple forms including, but not limited to subpoenas, statutory requests and/or requests for depositions and distribute or respond accordingly.
• Draft legal and business correspondence.
• Exercise critical judgment and analytical skills to assess and triage complex legal requests requiring legal support from internal or external legal counsel.
• Work directly with organizational personnel and outside legal service providers to effectively manage and respond to all legal support requests.
• Interact with state and federal agencies requesting information through legal processes.
• Be fluent with computer tools and technologies used to manage documents, data and information.
• Maintains Risk Management subpoena data base for tracking legal requests and responses.
• Complete work assignments independently, applying knowledge of legal document management.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and physician information as well as protected health information as required by state and federal law.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions:
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with all team members, physicians and attorneys.
• Cross-trained in operational claims support processes of the department.
Education/Training:
• Associate’s Degree in health related field, paralegal studies or business.
• High school graduate or equivalent with four (4) years of related healthcare, paralegal or business experience may be substituted for Associate’s Degree, in addition to the requirements listed below.
Experience:
• Two (2) years of legal or claims support, or other closely-related work experience is required.
