Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Claims Operations & Analytics Manager is responsible for leading the operational effectiveness, data integrity, reporting, and systems optimization of the company’s claims management function.  This position serves as the enterprise owner of claims data and reporting, ensuring accurate, consistent, and actionable information is available to support financial reporting, litigation oversight, and executive decision-making.  The role operates cross-functionally with Risk, Finance, IT, Maintenance, and Operations to improve claim outcomes, strengthen processes, and enhance visibility into the company’s total cost of risk.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of claims handling, including intake, investigation, reserving, litigation coordination, and resolution. 
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and lead initiatives to improve cycle time, claim outcomes, and cost containment.  Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness through data governance, validation controls, and audit processes.  Develop, maintain, and enhance reporting, including claims inventory and trend reporting, reserve development and financial exposure, litigation tracking and high-exposure claim reporting, risk committee, and executive-level KPI’s.
  • Act as the central source of truth for claims data supporting Risk, Finance, and executive leadership.  Lead the optimization and ongoing management of claims and risk management systems (RMIS).  Partner with IT to enhance system functionality, reporting capabilities, and system integrations.  Translate business requirements into technical solutions and reporting outputs.  Ensure system outputs align with operational, financial, and reporting needs. 
  • Support oversight of litigated claims through tracking, reporting, and documentation. Coordinate with outside counsel on case status, reporting, and budget visibility. Maintain visibility into high exposure and complex claims.  Serve as a liaison between Risk, Finance, IT, Maintenance, and Operations. Support financial reporting related to reserves and incurred loss activity. Provide insights and analytics to support safety initiatives and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support development of scalable processes and reporting frameworks for the claims function.  Participate in cross-functional initiatives requiring claims data, analytics, or system expertise.  Provide guidance and support to team members and stakeholders as needed.  Directly supervises claims analysts and/or support personnel. Responsible for assigning work, monitoring performance, and supporting employee development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Prefer a four-year college degree with an emphasis in a related field to the position plus 5 – 10 years related experience and/or training and 1 – 5 years previous management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.  Relevant insurance or claims designations (AIC, ARM, CPCU or similar) is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
