Position Information
Help protect taxpayers money by investigating claims, determining liability, and supporting fair, well-documented resolutions.
This position investigates, evaluates, and manages property damage, personal injury, and liability claims involving the City, working closely with legal staff, claimants, and other agencies to support timely and fair claim resolutions.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of the Corporation Counsel, Litigation Division, in Honolulu.
Special Working Conditions
Work schedule may be adjusted to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must be physically able to efficiently and effectively perform investigative work that requires moderate to arduous physical exertion, including but not limited to, the ability to:
Ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs
Move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces to access and investigation site
Traverse regular and steep terrain
Bend, crawl on hands and knees, and/or reach and lift to perform inspections
Lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds
Use of personal vehicle is required to drive to various locations for investigations, site visits, etc.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelors degree.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.
For example:
Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in claims adjustment may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a valid drivers license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.

Substitute, temporary assignment, internship or volunteer experience requires an official letter of verification from your supervisor and/or Human Resources department. Professional experience refers to work that generally involves independent critical thinking, solving complex, non-routine problems, preparing reports, and interpreting and applying technical information.
Most work experience as an intern will NOT be creditable as equivalent to professional experience.
Calculation of experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be extra credited.
Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week will be pro-rated to six months of experience.
Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week will be credited as one year of experience, NOT one and a half years.
