Description

JOB TITLE: Civil QA Inspector
LOCATION: Robstown, TX (Onsite)
DURATION: 3-6 month contract with extensions/conversion
RATE RANGE: $36/hr.


The Role (What to Expect):
The Civil Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector supports the QA Discipline Lead by verifying that all civil-related activities (e.g., earthwork, foundations, roads) conform to engineering designs, industry codes, regulatory requirements, and standards. This position requires solid technical judgment and problem-solving skills to perform surveillance, audits, and inspections as directed by the Civil QA Lead.

Responsibilities (What You ll Do):
  • Conduct surveillance and audits of civil work (earthwork, grading, compaction, concrete, reinforcing steel, utilities, drainage) to confirm that the contractor's QC program is being effectively implemented and maintained across all civil work areas.
  • Review and evaluate contractor QC records (compaction tests, concrete pour records, MTRs, field tests) for accuracy and completeness; identify gaps, deficiencies, and trends in contractor QC documentation and report findings to the Civil QA Lead.
  • Witness key testing and inspection activities (soil density/compaction, concrete slump, air content, temperature, cylinder, rebar placement) to confirm that contractor QC inspections and testing are being performed correctly, at the required frequency, and acceptance criteria are being met.
  • Perform audits and surveillances of contractor/subcontractor QC programs (inspection procedures, material control, corrective actions, documentation); prepare findings, observations, and non-conformances with corrective actions for the Civil QA Lead.
  • Review civil material submittals, mix designs, MTRs, aggregate gradations, and batch tickets to confirm contractor validation of material compliance; escalate discrepancies, substitutions, missing certs, or failed material tests to the Civil QA Lead.
  • Identify and document QA discrepancies (earthwork, concrete, reinforcing steel, utilities, drainage) with photos, measurements, and test data; track corrective action closeout per the project QA program.
  • Maintain QA surveillance records, audit reports, NCN logs, field test observations, and field notes; communicate findings to the Civil QA Lead and contractor QC, and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Requirements (What You ll Bring):
  • Minimum of 8 years experience as a quality inspector on large-scale industrial projects with at least 3 years as a client/owner quality representative.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and analyze discipline-specific technical documents, communicate effectively with contractor QC teams and the Civil QA Lead.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of quality assurance program requirements and key construction codes (e.g., ACI, IBC, ASTM, AASHTO); proficiency with inspection tools (e.g., concrete slump cones, ultrasonic pulse velocity meters, cover meters, rebar locators, ground penetrating radar).
  • Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate, analyze, and help resolve complex quality issues and report QA findings with recommended corrective actions for nonconformances.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of quality management principles and the ability to apply them throughout all phases of the project and system turnover walkdowns.
  • Ability to perform effectively within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive commissioning goals.
