Civil Practice Director

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct the search for a Civil Practice Director on behalf of our client, a mission-driven nonprofit legal services organization focused on housing stability and homelessness prevention in New York City.

This is a primarily remote position with travel throughout New York City for court appearances, community events, and partner meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a small team representing clients in civil legal matters; ensure staff training, day-today operations and workflow
  • Represent a caseload of clients in housing court and administrative hearings
  • Conduct intake and/or trainings, and participate in special events at partner organizations' sites
  • Research legal issues, with a focus on housing law and public benefits
  • Work with the team on case strategies and integration of services across practice areas
  • Identify areas for systemic advocacy; work with the executive director to develop policy goals in line with the needs of the communities the organization serves
  • Track client information and prepare reports for partners

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar
  • Positive track record leading a team
  • Previous experience in housing law and housing court representation
  • Strong legal research, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and providing trauma-informed services
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines
  • Commitment to serving underserved communities and advancing access to justice

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $101,000-$135,000, commensurate with experience.
