Estimator Position
Our client is a New Jersey-based infrastructure and sitework contractor, with over 25 years of experience delivering complex civil construction projects throughout the Tri-State area. Founded in 1993, the company specializes in services such as excavation and grading,storm drainage systems, sanitary sewers, utility installation, roadway milling and paving, and other heavy civil/site development work. Their team is known for managing multi-phase projects with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule performance, supported by OSHA-trained personnel and a portfolio that includes hundreds of completed public and private projects.
Job Description
- Reviews construction drawings, site plans, and specifications to understand project scope
- Performs quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, and other site components
- Calculates material, labor, and equipment costs based on project requirements
- Prepares detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals
- Evaluates subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
- Identifies potential cost risks and value engineering opportunities
- Coordinates with project managers, engineers, and contractors throughout the estimating process
- Ensures estimates align with timelines, project schedules, and client expectations
- Maintains cost databases and historical data for future estimating accuracy
- Assists in bid submissions and supports contract negotiations

The Successful Applicant
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, especially earthwork, utilities, and paving
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, Bluebeam, or similar tools)
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analyses
- Knowledge of local construction costs, labor rates, and material pricing
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with project teams, clients, and subcontractors
- Critical thinking skills to identify risks and suggest cost-saving opportunities
- Background in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (preferred)
