Position Overview ----------------

Civil Engineering faculty members contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, advise and mentor undergraduate students, participate in college activities and committee assignments, and provide service to the University, State, and profession.

Position Details ----------------

General Statement ----------------

Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending on need and available funding.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis unless otherwise indicated and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration (a couple weeks, a semester, or an academic year) depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and duration.

Duties and Responsibilities ---------------------------

  • Teach on-campus and/or online courses
  • Advise, evaluate, and assist students
  • Participate in curriculum and/or course development
  • Contribute positively and professionally to the academic success of students and the mission of Montana State University

Preferred Qualifications ----------------------

  • Significant long-term direct professional experience and substantial insight into the theory and practice of the field or discipline of teaching responsibility
  • Currency in area of teaching responsibility
  • Previous teaching experience

The Program ------------

The MSU Civil Engineering Department anticipates that the engineering and construction community will evolve quickly with several very fundamental precepts for success. Among these is the premise that the engineers and constructors of the future will continue to rely on fundamental engineering science and contemporary computational tools to guide their choices. We therefore choose to focus on fundamental engineering basics and the application of modern engineering tools.

Our civil and environmental engineering programs will be acknowledged for their strong emphasis and rigor in engineering science, design, and applications. Our construction programs will be acknowledged for their emphasis on engineering and management skills and the application of those skills to the construction industry.

The emphasis of these programs will continue to be preparation of students for professional practice in the engineering and construction industries.

The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic departments:
