CIVIL ENGINEER / SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER - PUBLIC WORKS

The Engineering Division is recruiting for four openings, two in the Water Engineering Section managing water and wastewater related infrastructure projects, one in the Capital Improvement Program Design Section as a project manager, and one in the Technical Services Section to manage the City's Pavement Management Program.

Pay Grade Civil Engineer: 113 Senior Civil Engineer: 116

Annual Salary Range Civil Engineer: $71,800 - $105,900 Senior Civil Engineer: $89,600 - $132,100

The successful candidate's placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role. This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education, and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position performs a variety of project management functions for complex engineering projects. Manages projects from conception to design completion and preconstruction phase. Develops and monitors project budgets. Coordinates with City departments, outside consultants, and contractors, and residents/business owners. Performs design review, construction procurement, field review, and site visits. Senior Civil Engineer provides direct supervision to assigned staff.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Interprets and provides technical reviews of plans and specifications for projects as well as engineering solutions in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Manage all aspects of Capital Improvement Program project delivery. Prepares cost estimates and project budgets. Communicates and coordinates regularly with consultants, contractors, other City employees, management, public, and vendors to complete projects. Provides technical support and recommendations to City management in engineering-related areas involving water, wastewater, streets, transportation, storm drain, structural, building systems, and parks. Participates in consultant or contractor qualifications-based selection; evaluates consultant proposals and negotiates scope and fees for public infrastructure projects within defined budget. Administers contracts to prepare studies, reports, plans, and specifications for permitting, bidding, and construction; prepares addendums during bidding, answers bidders' questions, and evaluates bids.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience

Civil Engineer: 2 years of experience in civil engineering project management or related experience

Senior Civil Engineer: 4 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, or related experience.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

Education

Civil Engineer / Senior Civil Engineer Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications

Civil Engineer & Senior Civil Engineer Valid Driver's License Senior Civil Engineer Professional Engineer (PE) License in Arizona or reciprocity within 6 months
