Job Description: Civil Engineer II and GIS SpecialistKiloNewton is searching for an ambitious individual who is an experienced Civil Engineer II and GIS Specialist, to perform analysis in a variety of applications concerning renewable energy, primarily solar and wind. The ideal candidate will leverage professional skills, in analysis, design and leadership to prepare calculations, drawings, reports, etc. for project deliverables on renewable energy civil site layout and design, survey, civil design. They will also use mapping systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and CAD to prepare maps and drawings for project deliverables on renewable energy and other projects, building custom models around the world to assess renewable energy sites for development.The Civil Engineer II and GIS Specialist will be skilled in utilizing computer analysis and drafting software, including AutoCAD and AutoDesk analysis packages, ArcGIS Pro software, Python programming language, HEC-RAS and/or other G&D/hydrology software. The ideal candidate will also have some experience with earthwork and foundation design, interpreting geotechnical reports, and hold a current valid EIT/PE license or be able to get one in the next 1-2 years. Designs, plans, maps and drawings must be created with accurate detail that incorporates topography, boundaries, permitting ordinances, environmental variables, design inputs, field notes, and must comprehend, interpret, and render inputs from their supervisor and others as required.ResponsibilitiesAssess project and its requirementsResearch publicly available data and maps for use in generating final map results.Importing/exporting CAD to GIS and vice versa, including georeferencing.Assess the impact and feasibility of site due diligence, preliminary layout and up to the final engineering designWorking with other technical staff to create, test, validate, and use innovative new automated processes for engineering design and analysisPrepare drawings and schematic designs based on project requirementsStudy and assess drawings, plans, specifications and documents relating to construction projectsCreate, review, and approve civil plans, calculations, and permitting documents for submittals to customers, AHJs, and site ownersExperience with creation and review of typical civil submittals, such as SWPPP, and other state/federal permitting requirementsDetermine budget, project schedules and scope of work and deploy appropriate staffPreparing bids for prospective clients, including generating maps and solutions for network and proposal opportunities and scope of work requests.Collaborate, manage, and interact with construction teams, surveyors, architects and outside project developers and consultantsManage deliverables on time and within the budgetInitiate and ensure standard civil engineering discipline in drawings and plans including surveying, grading, geotechnical, wind, seismic, snow and hydrology analysesWorking closely on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionalsDeveloping design ideas using CAD, Hydrology, and GIS softwareUsing computer simulations to predict how various site designs react under varying conditionsMaking sure that projects meet legal, environmental, health and safety requirementsPerform implementation, processing, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on new and updated data, as well as compile metadata.Create, translate and integrate GIS data layers, and digitize new data using a variety of software.Implement technical algorithms and equations into custom Python scripts in GIS modelsAutomate GIS & engineering processes in Python and other languages and assist with conversion into software APIs.Provide technical expertise and support to groups, personnel, and users in Civil Engineering, GIS and data efforts.Work with management to schedule work and manage workload to meet customer and company expectations, including progress reports to clients and senior managersSkills and RequirementsExperience with renewable energy, particularly solar and/or wind.Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods related to FEA/CAD, especially AutoCAD and Civil 3D.Proficiency in hydrology analysis programs such as HEC-RAS, FLO-2D or similar programsMinimum 2 years of experience in ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro. A GISP certification is a plus.Minimum 1 years of Python coding experience with GIS products. Other coding experience may be considered if highly proficientKnowledge of principles, practices, and methods related to GIS/CAD.Working knowledge of GIS techniques such as map production, editing, and geocoding.Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Project.Demonstrated customer relationship and people skills.Demonstrated excellent communications skills (written, verbal, and presentation).Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented.The ideal candidate should have 4-8 years of experience in civil engineering and GIS, in a variety of specializationsRequired: a bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline (e.g. renewable energy, civil engineering, GIS) or related experience.
