Civil Engineering Opportunities | Engineer I, II, III
Depending on qualifications, selected candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus and opportunities for career advancement. Civil Engineer I, II, and III roles provide professional engineering support within assigned functional areas. These positions contribute to the planning, design, review, and implementation of engineering projects while serving as a technical resource for staff, contractors, and the public.
Key Responsibilities

- Research and analyze engineering data to prepare and update plans, reports, and correspondence.
- Review and design plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards for public works, utilities, street lighting, water, and wastewater systems, and traffic engineering projects.
- Perform essential engineering functions, including site inspections, cost estimating, and monitoring project progress.
- Prepare, evaluate, approve, and maintain engineering documentation, such as specifications, invoices, proposals, grant applications, and permits.
- Coordinate project implementation through collaboration with internal staff, contractors, and external agencies.
- Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns from contractors, City staff, the public, and partner organizations.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to support continuous professional development.
- Perform related duties, including training or supervising subordinate staff, as assigned.
Required Qualifications

- VOCATIONALEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires a bachelors degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
- EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
- Engineer I: No experience required for applicants who possess a bachelors degree. Non-degreed applicants must have two years of experience in addition to the degree equivalency.
- Engineer II: In addition to satisfying the vocational-education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related full-time equivalent experience.
- Engineer III: In addition to satisfying the vocational-education standards, this class requires a minimum of five years of related full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

- Requires a valid drivers license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required to qualify for Engineer III.
- Depending on position, additional State and/or City certifications may be required.
