Job Description

The Civil Designer will support the design and production of land and site development projects, working closely with engineers and project managers to create high-quality construction documents and design solutions. Using AutoCAD Civil 3D, this role focuses on site layout, grading, utilities, and stormwater management while ensuring all deliverables meet technical standards, local codes, and project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of land development and site development projects.
• Prepare site layout and grading plans that support overall project objectives and constraints.
• Design stormwater management systems in accordance with applicable standards and best practices.
• Support the design of water and sanitary sewer utilities for site development projects.
• Develop erosion and sediment control plans that comply with regulatory requirements.
• Prepare detailed construction drawings and complete plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Perform grading, drainage, and basic design calculations to support project development and design decisions.
• Modify and update drawings based on redlines, markups, and comments from clients, agencies, and internal reviewers.
• Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure project deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company and client standards.
• Organize, maintain, and update CAD files and project documentation to support efficient project delivery.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in civil design, preferably within land development.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design, grading, and utility layout.
• Experience with land development and site development design, including grading and drainage.
• Understanding of land development design principles and local codes and standards.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing accurate drawings and calculations.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members.
• Strong organizational skills to manage CAD files and project documentation.
• Experience with stormwater, drainage, and civil design concepts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate's degree in CAD/Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field, OR a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting land development projects, including site layout, utilities, and stormwater management.
• Familiarity with erosion and sediment control design.
• Experience working within established company and client CAD standards.
• Ability to respond constructively to redlines and markups and incorporate feedback into design revisions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Work Environment

The Civil Designer works in a professional office environment focused on civil and land development projects, using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related CAD tools on a daily basis. The role involves close collaboration with engineers, project managers, and other technical staff, with an emphasis on meeting project schedules and maintaining high-quality documentation. Work is primarily computer-based, with attention to detail and adherence to established design and drafting standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
