Civil Designer

Location: Kansas City, MO

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join their team in Kansas City, Missouri. This long-term contract opportunity offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, land development, transportation, utility, aviation, and site development projects. The Civil Designer will be responsible for producing high-quality engineering design documents, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting projects from conceptual planning through construction documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design civil engineering projects including:
  • Site development and land development
  • Roadway design
  • Storm drainage systems
  • Stormwater management facilities
  • Water distribution and sanitary sewer systems
  • Sediment and erosion control plans
  • Traffic control plans
  • Airport and facility infrastructure projects
• Develop construction drawings and design deliverables for projects of varying size and complexity.
• Perform design calculations, layout development, and technical analysis for civil engineering systems.
• Execute design modifications, updates, and revisions based on project requirements and engineering direction.
• Analyze reports, surveys, maps, drawings, test data, topographical information, and geotechnical data to support project design.
• Apply applicable industry codes, standards, specifications, and design criteria throughout project execution.
• Prepare grading plans and perform volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site development activities.
• Review project schedules, budgets, and design criteria to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Conduct quality reviews of design drawings and deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain organized project files, drawing records, plot files, and design documentation.
• Collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and other Designers to resolve technical challenges and meet project objectives.
• Support additional project and departmental responsibilities as assigned.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

One of the following is required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with at least 7 years of related experience; OR
• Associate Degree with at least 8 years of related experience; OR
• 9+ years of progressive civil design and detailing experience.

Technical Skills

• Expert proficiency with:
  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D
  • MicroStation
  • Microsoft Excel
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering design principles, calculations, and design systems.
• Experience developing construction drawings and design documentation for civil infrastructure projects.
• Ability to interpret engineering standards, specifications, and design requirements.
• Understanding of multidisciplinary engineering coordination and design integration.
