The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division.

The mission of the Disability Employment and Transitions Division is to advance the independence and employment of Montanans with disabilities. As a member of the DETD Operations and Program Support Bureau, this position facilitates, coaches, and supports Montana's Independent Living (IL) and Vocational Rehabilitation networks and their missions to promote self‑determination and full inclusion of people with disabilities.

This position provides facilitation, coordination, and advisory support to both the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) and the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC). The SILC is an autonomous council as required by the Rehabilitation Act and is led by an independent chairperson. The SRC serves as the consumer‑focused advisory body to Vocational Rehabilitation and Blind Services (VRBS), providing guidance on policies, performance, and effectiveness of the vocational rehabilitation program.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities individuals with disability face with employment, independence, and equality including general understanding of the types of disabilities served, challenges of disability types, challenges of employment and independence, supports required, and cultural challenges.

  • Ability to develop strategies to address conflicts, problems, resource limitations, and achieve objectives.

  • Comprehensive understanding of disability inclusion principles and the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, and Section 508 as they relate to meetings, events, and public programs.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or public administration or a related field and at least 3 years progressively responsible professional experience in a disability program.

  • Experience in a disability program is strongly preferred.

  • Program management experience is preferred.
