CICU Intensivist Job Description

Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated intensivist who is American Board of Internal Medicine certified in Critical Care, with State of Texas Medical Licensure, DEA, DPS and an interest in Cardiac and Critical Care Medicine.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a part of the Center for Critical Care at Houston Methodist Hospital, which is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, the largest medical complex in the world. The CICU is a 30-bed unit which treats acute cardiac patients with a wide variety of illnesses including ACS, advanced heart failure, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, post-cardiac arrest, and post-atrial and ventricular ablation. We also manage pre-transplant patients listed for heart transplants.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing critical care and cardiac cases including the management of advanced heart failure mechanical support, such as intra-aortic balloon pump management, Impella management, ECMO management, and the use of right heart catheterization. Additional expertise in general critical care, including airway management, is also required.

The candidate must have an interest in the education of students, residents, and fellows who rotate through the unit, and must be at ease working with a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative fashion managing the critically ill patient. The intensivists are supported in the ICU with 24/7 in-house fellows, APP assistance, and virtual intensivist support at night. Intensivists work a 12-hour shift-based schedule with 24/7 in-house intensivist coverage.

Successful applicants will be eligible to apply for a Clinical Instructor teaching appointment with our academic affiliate, Weill Cornell Medical College.

We have a very inviting work environment, great nursing staff and an opportunity for tremendous growth and experience. The Department offers highly competitive salaries, flexible scheduling, CME, and a comprehensive benefits package, including malpractice insurances, a Defined Contribution Plan, 403(b) investments with match, as well as medical and dental coverage for applicant and family.
