Job Summary and Qualifications
To provide psychological and developmental based assessment and support to both patients an their families. Plan and provide emotionally and developmentally appropriate experiences to promote effective coping with health care and continued cognitive and emotional growth. Enhance quality of patient care through participation, documentation and communication with other members of the health care team. Serve as a resource and advocate on child development issues
Essential Duties:
The Child Life Specialist is responsible for the assessment, documentation, intervention and evaluation of patient/family psychosocial and developmental strengths and risks in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary patient care team. The Child Life Specialist, in collaboration with medical and/or nursing staff, conducts medical play and psychological preparation with patients to facilitate patient and family understanding of medical procedures, to provide opportunities to express feelings, to minimize fear of such procedures, to promote a sense of mastery and to provide coping strategies. Support during procedures is provided when indicated. Will conduct educational seminars with members of the health care team.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- (CCLS) Certified Child Life Specialist
- Bachelors Degree in Child Life Specialist
- 2 years minimum experience in the Child Life profession
