Job Description:
Supports education and skills of the interdisciplinary team to advocate for and enhance atraumatic care and comfort techniques throughout the facility. Provides training and supervision for volunteers and maintain positive working relationships with them. Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and interventions. Maintains an organized and clean work environment, including playroom, workspace, and storage areas. Other duties as assigned.
Provides developmentally appropriate education for patients and their families related to medical procedures, diagnoses, pain management, grief, and bereavement. Uses play as a primary resource with patients and siblings to enhance coping, promote mastery and control, and encourage socialization. Assesses developmental levels, coping skills, and diversional needs of patients and siblings while establishing therapeutic relationships. Utilizes stress reduction techniques and offers emotional support to assist with patient and family coping and minimize stress related to their healthcare experience. Assists with coordination, involvement, and support for hospital-related community and special events. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Child Life peers and members of the healthcare team while supporting departmental changes due to performance initiatives.
