Job Description

Overview

East Hawaii Medical Group is seeking a Child Clinical Psychologist to join our behavioral health team on the Big Island of Hawaii. This role is designed for a psychologist who wants to build a meaningful outpatient practice focused on children, adolescents, and families—while working within a supportive, collaborative healthcare system.

Our behavioral health team is highly interdependent, allowing for coordinated, patient-centered care across their treatment. This is a setting where providers have the autonomy to practice thoughtfully while also benefiting from team-based support.

Practice Model & Environment

This position offers a balanced clinical model that includes both psychotherapy and psychological assessment. Providers have flexibility to structure their schedules, including dedicated testing blocks, allowing for a sustainable and focused workflow that benefits both the provider and the patient.

You will work with a diverse pediatric population presenting with a broad range of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and neuropsychological concerns, including:

  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • Autism spectrum disorders and neurodevelopmental differences
  • Learning disorders and school-related difficulties
  • Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
  • Trauma related symptoms and adverse childhood experiences
  • Behavioral dysregulation and emotional challenges
  • Family, attachment, and environmental stressors
  • Complex psychosocial and cultural needs

This role also involves close collaboration with parents, caregivers, schools, primary care providers, psychiatrists, and community supports, making it ideal for someone who values holistic, family-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and families
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological and developmental evaluations
  • Develop individualized, developmentally appropriate treatment plans
  • Collaborate with psychiatry, primary care, and behavioral health colleagues
  • Coordinate care with families, schools, and community resources
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the EHR
  • Structure schedule to include dedicated time for testing and assessments

Qualifications

  • Doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship
  • Experience or training in pediatric populations (assessment and therapy)
  • Eligible for or licensed in the State of Hawaii

Living & Working on the Big Island

The Big Island offers a unique lifestyle that blends professional fulfillment with personal well-being. Whether you prefer coastal living, a quiet rural setting, or a close-knit community, there are a range of living options within a short distance of Hilo and Pahoa.

This is an environment where providers can step away from high-volume, high-burnout systems and focus on quality care, community connection, and long-term sustainability.
