Description of Work

The position serves as the Chief of Staff to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, providing strategic coordination and managerial support of the administration of major functions within the DMV during a period of significant transformation. This role has responsibility for key components of the NCDMV Strategic Plan which will establish the Division as a modernized, data-driven, employee-empowered organization committed to customer service excellence. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the DMV Chief Operating Officer and involves organizational development and planning, operational support and problem-solving, project leadership, programmatic and policy review, regulatory compliance, budget analysis, and other related responsibilities as required. This position serves on the NCDMV leadership team and functions as a liaison between NCDMV senior management and the public, Legislators, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC20    $70,478 - $123,336

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Knowledge of management principles, process improvement, and problem-solving techniques
  • Demonstrated leadership experience directing others to resolve business problems that affect multiple functions or disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences, verbally and in written format
  • Skill in program development, implementation, analysis, and evaluation

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of program experience related to the area of assignment, including one year of supervisory program experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
