Primary Purpose
The Chief of Police oversees the leadership direction and management of the Royal ISD Police Department. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students staff and district property by developing and enforcing policies procedures and initiatives that comply with federal state and local laws. The Chief of Police collaborates with district administration local law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to plan coordinate implement and manage the district&rsquos safety protocols and security systems. Additionally this position oversees the district&rsquos safety and security programs and coordinates the emergency operations response plan ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and ordinances.

Education
Certification
Bachelor&rsquos degree in criminal justice law enforcement public administration or a related field Preferred
Texas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement TCOLE
Clear and valid Texas driver&rsquos license
Successful completion of training required by Texas Education Code TEC §96.641 and Texas Occupation Code §1701.2633

Experience
Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
Experience in school-based law enforcement or community policing is highly preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Provide leadership and oversight of the Royal ISD Police Department ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Develop implement and enforce policies and procedures related to school security emergency preparedness and law enforcement activities within the district.
Supervise police personnel including hiring training evaluating and disciplining officers and staff as needed.
Coordinate enforcement activities with outside law enforcement agencies other department directors and campus principals to develop and implement preventative security programs gang management plans and other safety programs.
Oversee investigations involving criminal activity school safety concerns and incidents occurring within district property.
Investigate and make recommendations on all complaints and accusations made against district police officers or staff.
Develop and conduct training for staff students and the community on security measures emergency response and crime prevention.
Maintain and manage department budgets equipment and resources to ensure operational efficiency.
Collaborate with district leadership in developing crisis management plans safety audits and security enhancements.
Serve as the primary liaison between the police department and district administrators school personnel and community stakeholders.
Monitor and analyze crime trends affecting the district and recommend proactive measures to enhance safety.
Prepare reports maintain records and ensure proper documentation of incidents policies and compliance-related activities.
Promote positive relationships between law enforcement and the school community through outreach and engagement activities.
Ensure officers and staff adhere to ethical and professional standards in all law enforcement and security functions.
Maintain property room for storage of weapons and contraband confiscated on district property.
Adhere to professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.
