Chief Financial Officer

Excavation & Site Development

Location: Auburn, New York

Salary Range: $100,00 - $150,000

Bonus Opportunity: Eligible for a performance-based bonus up to a maximum annual payout of $50,000 annually.

Position Summary

 

We are seeking a highly motivated, results-driven Director of Financial Operations for a growing commercial site development company. This executive leadership role is responsible for the complete end-to-end financial management and growth of the business, including strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, cash flow management, banking relationships, financial reporting, tax compliance, and operational cost control. We are seeking an ambitious finance professional who wants more than a traditional controller role. As we pursue strategic acquisitions, this position is designed to evolve and grow for a high-performing candidate.


The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, possesses strong business acumen, and is passionate about identifying opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and long-term financial performance. The CFO will partner closely with ownership and operational leadership to drive growth while maintaining financial discipline and accountability.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

·       Lead the company's overall financial strategy through short-term and long-term planning.

·       Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership on financial and operational decisions.

·       Develop financial models to support growth initiatives, equipment investments, acquisitions, and expansion opportunities.

·       Provide timely and accurate financial analysis to support executive decision-making.

Accounting & Financial Management

·       Oversee all accounting functions

·       Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes are completed accurately and on schedule.

·       Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, and KPI dashboards.

·       Maintain internal controls and financial policies.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow

·       Develop annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasts.

·       Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity.

·       Analyze revenue, margins, labor costs, equipment utilization, and overhead expenses.

·       Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Operational & Cost Improvement Leadership

·       Evaluate operational processes to identify cost-saving opportunities.

·       Partner with field operations and management teams to improve efficiency and profitability.

·       Track, validate, and document cost-saving initiatives.

·       Establish financial accountability across departments.

·       Optimize profitability and support the company's growth through acquisitions and expansion initiatives.

Banking, Tax & Compliance

·       Manage relationships with banks, lenders, insurance providers, and external auditors.

·       Oversee tax planning, compliance, and reporting requirements.

·       Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.

·       Coordinate annual audits and financial reviews.

Construction & Seasonal Business Financial Oversight

·       Monitor job costing and profitability by project.

·       Analyze and track fixed assets ownership and utilization costs.

·       Manage seasonal cash flow fluctuations associated with snow operations.

·       Develop financial strategies that adapt to seasonal market dynamics.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a strong blend of financial operations expertise, ability to improve profitability, manage budgets, support project performance, and help drive the company’s continued growth with the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

Required

·       Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

·       Minimum 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience.

·       Experience leading all aspects of accounting and finance operations.

·       Strong understanding of job costing, equipment-intensive operations, and cash flow management.

·       Advanced proficiency in financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.

·       Demonstrated success identifying and implementing measurable cost savings.

·       Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

·       Ability to work both strategically and hands-on in a growing business environment.

Preferred

·       Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

·       Experience in excavation, construction, heavy civil, logistics, snow removal, or related industries.

·       MBA or advanced business degree.

·       Knowledge of WIP reporting, job costing and AIA invoicing/payment applications

·       Experience with ERP, construction accounting, or fleet management systems.
