Position Overview:

As a Chemical Laboratory Technician BWXT NOGJ, you will perform a variety of duties within the Chemical Laboratory, the Quality Assurance Department and will support various programs across the site. This position will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager. This position may require the ability to work a 2nd or 3rd shift schedule and may be required to work weekends to support production needs.

Working under general supervision and following established policies, the Chemical Laboratory Technician performs routine Chemical Lab testing while maintaining a safe work environment, meeting quality requirements, customer specifications and shipment schedules.

Your Day to Day as a Chemical Lab Technician:

Perform established analytical chemistry determinations in a Chemistry Laboratory, work is predominately inorganic in nature

Follow written and verbal instructions to meet required precision and accuracy requirements

Maintain process and procedural qualifications in area of cognizance

Weighs, measures and mixes both uranium (for TRISO applications) and non-uranium containing chemicals

Performs sample preparation both weighing, dissolving, diluting and furnace treating samples

Operates analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units, IC units, etc.

Oversees, troubleshoots and performs established analytical chemistry determinations consistently and accurately

Trains new laboratory personnel to perform analytical chemistry determinations

Performs calculations in order to complete assignments

Solves a variety of technical issues related to analytical chemistry determinations by collaborating with Quality Control Chemists

Review and comments on existing procedures, and assists in generating new analytical procedures

Advanced data collection, analysis and reporting activities including daily record keeping

Maintain a clean and neat workspace

Report abnormalities immediately to Chemist and/or Quality Assurance Manager

May be required to wear a respirator in the performance of normal duties and will be required to maintain clean shaven protocol for respirator fit testing

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Associate's Degree in technical field and two (2) years of experience in a Quality Control setting or a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience including a minimum of two (2) years in a Quality Control setting

Associate Degree with focus on Chemistry, Biology, Physics or other physical science related field is preferred

Experience in a quality control analytical laboratory (preferred inorganic in nature) is desired

Experience operating analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, Pycnometers, Surface Area Analyzers, automated titration units and IC units is desired

Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems is desired

Proven ability to work with high level of attention to detail

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Demonated experience working in a team environment

Self-motivated. Shows initiative with minimal supervision

Capable of leading multi-discipline team

Proficiency on MS Word, Excel and/or comparable programs

Ability to interface effectively within Operations and with various support groups such as Maintenance, Quality and Engineering

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment

Must be able to work 10 plus hours per shift

May be required to work any shift, 1st, 2nd or 3rd

Must be available to work overtime and/or on weekends as needed

Must be a US Citizen

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance

Pay: $26.92 - $42.31

The starting hourly rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $26.92 and $42.31 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.

If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed at-will, unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
