The Prince George’s County Department of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Charge Nurse - Lactation/Nutrition Consultant (Community Health Nurse 3A) grade A24 position, in the Family Health Services Division (WIC Program).

About the Position
This is advanced senior/lead-level professional nursing work performed to address the health care needs of target populations (e.g., infants, youth, adults, and seniors) through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The position serves as a Charge Nurse within the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program and requires a Registered Nurse with formal training in nutrition science and current certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). The position provides a variety of professional nursing and health care services to clients, patients, families, and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds. These services are designed to promote health and wellness and prevent disease and disability. This position is considered essential.

At this level, the position is generally responsible for implementing and managing work within an assigned program area. The role may function in one (1) of three (3) capacities: (1) as an advanced senior nurse with extensive experience and specialized training providing advanced direct nursing services to a specific target population (e.g., pregnant adolescents, premature infants, older adults, etc.); (2) as a clinic charge nurse responsible for the daily on-site management of public health clinics or facilities; or (3) as an assistant supervisor providing direct support to higher-level community health management staff through the supervision and training of lower-level personnel and the coordination of special projects.

The position requires frequent interaction with nursing, medical, and social services professionals to coordinate and deliver comprehensive health and nursing care programs and services to the public. Work is performed in a variety of community settings, including homes, clinics, schools, and offices, and may involve exposure to infectious or contagious diseases. Assignments are carried out within established nursing care standards and departmental policies and procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level health and nursing personnel and is evaluated through observation, record reviews, and employee-management conferences.
