Job Description: Charge Nurse - Mohs Surgery
The charge nurse oversees the operations of the Mohs Surgery department while working alongside the team and physician. The primary role of a charge nurse is to ensure that all nursing functions within the department run smoothly and efficiently. They also provide guidance and support to help staff through challenging situations as they arise. Like staff nurses, charge nurses are generally patient-facing.
This position reports to the Regional Director of Operations.
Hours
Monday thru Thursday 7:30am-5:00pm
Clinical Responsibilities
Escort patients to exam room, complete a brief history and obtain vital signs if needed.
Perform local anesthesia prior to skin procedures.
Assist Mohs surgeon with skin procedures/surgeries such as biopsies and skin cancer removals.
Stays current on electronic health records (EHR) changes and ensures appropriate and effective documentation in patient records.
Keeps up with the flow of operational needs to ensure the best and timely care for patients – manages phone calls and messages efficiently, checks EHR and email regularly, handles prior authorizations and refills, and effectively triages phone calls.
Organize and prepare exam rooms for patient care.
Provide patient education and counsel patients regarding their diagnosis and treatment.
Manage incoming phone calls, prior authorizations, medication refills and communicate biopsy and test results to patients.
Able to assess patients over the phone to determine plans of care.
Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, employees, physicians and the public to promote a professional health care environment.
Charge Nurse Responsibilities
Ensures staff adhere to workplace protocols and procedures.
Acts as a liaison between the staff and physician.
First call for after hours patient calls.
Creating and evaluating staffing plans and schedules in collaboration with Clinic Supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor's degree in nursing.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse.
At least 2 years nursing experience preferred with Dermatology and/or Mohs Surgery.
3-5 years of experience in managing staff.
Current CPR licensing required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and be flexible in learning and handling a variety of duties.
