Client: Non Profit Development Organization 
Role: Chief Financial Officer
Salary: $275,000 - $300,000/annually + Bonus

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey (*5 days a week onsite*)

Role Overview

As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will partner directly with the President to drive the organization’s strategic vision and financial sustainability. You will oversee all aspects of financial management, from high-level capitalization strategies and board relations to the rigorous oversight of accounting operations, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.


Core Responsibilities

Executive Strategy & Leadership

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the President and executive team to develop, implement, and assess the organization’s long-term strategic plan.

  • Organizational Growth: Identify and execute tactics to facilitate organizational success and ensure objectives are met.

  • Board & Committee Relations: Lead the Audit and Finance Committees; present comprehensive financial statements and performance analysis to the Board of Trustees.

Financial Operations & Accounting

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Direct all monthly accounting functions, ensuring the timely delivery of financial statements for the parent company, subsidiaries, and managed entities.

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee banking, accounts payable, and cash receipts; ensure efficient transaction processing interfaces across all lines of business.

  • Audit Management: Lead the annual audit process and Uniform Guidance audits. Act as the primary liaison for external auditors to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Capitalization & Cash Management

  • Capital Strategy: Determine investment and operating capital needs; establish and implement strategies to raise necessary capital.

  • Grants & Investment Management: Maintain critical information for grant applications and meet all periodic reporting requirements for investors.

  • Liquidity Oversight: Monitor cash flow and available resources to fund ongoing operations and investing activities while ensuring compliance with internal investment policies.

Budgeting & Risk Mitigation

  • Annual Budgeting: Lead the organizational budget process to develop annual operating and capital plans that align with strategic goals.

  • Risk Management: Develop and maintain financial operating policies; participate in Risk Rating and Credit Committee meetings.

  • Asset Monitoring: Track the impact of non-performing assets, write-downs, and charge-offs, ensuring adequate reserves are in place to mitigate potential impact.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Investor Relations: Monitor compliance with financial covenants and direct the preparation of reports required by grantors and investors.

  • Tax & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure strict adherence to tax regulations, NMTC (New Markets Tax Credit) investment reporting, and evolving financial updates.

Team Development & Supervision

  • Mentorship: Manage and mentor direct reports, providing consistent feedback through both informal check-ins and formal performance reviews.

  • Professional Growth: Assist staff in establishing professional development plans to foster internal growth and organizational capability.


Key Competencies

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to link financial performance to long-term organizational goals.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and complex capitalization structures (e.g., NMTC).

  • Communication: Exceptional ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders and Board members.

  • Integrity: High standard of ethics in managing compliance, audits, and regulatory reporting.
