We are growing and expanding our nationally recognized operating room team. We have recently joined Northwell Health and can provide career growth and development. This role is a Full Time Evening Nights Monday-Thursday 9pm-730am with assigned call shifts and provides competitive pay, perks, and benefits. This is a union role with pay based on full years of experience from $66,400 - $93,000 per year plus shift differentials. Certified Surg Techs or Recent Graduates of a recognized Surg Tech Program are encouraged to apply and discuss the opportunities.
Summary
To perform scrub duties and assist in the nursing care of the surgical patient before, during, and after the surgical procedure.
Responsibilities
- Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient.
- Applies the knowledge of normal pathological anatomy and physiology and the actions of pharmacologic agents in order to individualize patient care.
- Applies principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care, including respect of the patients right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures, demonstrating knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures and displaying dexterity in the use of required instrumentation.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon to expedite the procedure, thus minimizing the patients exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.
- Develops and improves skills in the organization of work and in assisting the surgeon in learning to use economy in time, motion, and materials.
- Identifies emergency situations and uses judgment in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
- Completes a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education per year and maintains certification.
- Completes preceptor training and demonstrates the ability to perform one-on-one instruction for all students and staff learning the scrub role.
- Participates in providing in-servicing to other staff relative to the role as surgical technologist.
- Functions efficiently and in a professional manner in all aspects of surgical care during both routine and special duties, recognizing the importance of teamwork, consideration, and cooperation.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
