Salary: Starting at $58,000 annually


Overview

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) – Group Facilitator to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. This pivotal role supports individuals struggling with substance use disorders through evidence-based therapeutic interventions within our Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise, excellent interpersonal skills, and a compassionate approach to client care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Therapeutic Facilitation: Lead engaging group and individual therapy sessions employing motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care techniques. Focus on fostering a supportive environment that encourages participation, peer support, and personal growth.

  • Client Support & Engagement: Address co-occurring mental health disorders, promote recovery, and help clients develop skills for sustained sobriety. Provide psychoeducational activities and skill-building exercises tailored to individual needs.

  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and organized records of all sessions, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.

  • Team Collaboration: Partner closely with multidisciplinary team members—including program directors, counselors, case managers, and peer support specialists—to ensure cohesive, client-centered treatment plans and seamless care coordination.

  • Crisis Intervention: Respond effectively to client crises, assess high-risk behaviors, and implement appropriate interventions to maintain safety and stability.

  • Training & Development: Stay updated on current research, best practices, and treatment innovations. Participate in ongoing training and share knowledge with team members to elevate overall program delivery.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all professional ethics, confidentiality laws, Medicaid and Human Rights regulations, and agency policies.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Certification: Must possess an active Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Assistant (CSAC-A) certification from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or be a qualified applicant with didactic coursework completed and actively registered in supervised experiential training.

  • Professional Experience: Experience in substance abuse treatment and familiarity with co-occurring mental health conditions. Ideal candidates will have prior experience facilitating support groups or therapy sessions.

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, or related field preferred. Relevant certifications and licenses are mandatory.

  • Competencies: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to foster a collaborative environment, excellent listening and conflict resolution abilities, and proficiency in documentation.

  • Additional Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and Behavior Management training are desirable. Successful candidates must clear criminal history and background checks.
