General Statement of Job
Under a Certified Pharmacist direct supervision, this position assists the Pharmacist with preparing medication and medical supply orders for delivery to patients and performs clerical tasks within the pharmacy. The employee is responsible for maintaining accurate patient information on patient profiles, processing billing, maintaining inventory and maintaining complete files. This position requires patient and public interaction and the ability to work well with the public and health care professionals.
Essential Functions
- Assists the Pharmacist in accurately dispensing medications and medical supplies to the hospital's patients.
- Fills medication orders, medication cart drawers, and floor stock requests accurately and efficiently for verification by the Pharmacist.
- Replenishes medications in emergency boxes and carts, and floor stock areas accurately as needed. Ensures the emergency boxes and carts are free of expired medications and rotates stock on a regular basis.
- Assists with workflow telephone calls and directs messages accordingly.
- Prepares IV (intravenous) admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
- Cleans and maintains the IV hood and Compounding areas, including monitoring pressures and temperatures as required, on a daily basis.
- Maintains accurate electronic records of required information per USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines. Reports any variances and/or issues to the Director of Pharmacy immediately.
- Monitors compounding, and testing documentation for compliance with USP 797 and 800 guidelines.
- Processes and fills the Medication Dispensing Machines on a routine basis.
- Monitors inventory of stock and assists Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Buyer with inventory management initiatives including par levels for all medications.
- Delivers medications and supplies to the patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule. Makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
- Conducts and documents unit inspection audits of assigned areas monthly.
- Assists in monitoring temperature logs of the medication refrigerators, freezers, and warmers for appropriate range. When out of range the unit is adjusted and the Pharmacist is notified immediately to evaluate the integrity of the drug supply of that unit.
- Performs Medication Reconciliation for patients admitted to the hospital and properly documents any changes to the patient's medications in the system.
- Assists in maintaining pharmacy supply and inventory system; including ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Assists in rotating stock to ensure use before expiration date. Assists in identifying and replacing outdated and unusable medications.
- Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques for verification by the Pharmacist.
- Generates reports, pick lists, fill batches, and labels accurately, as required.
- Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.
- Responds to concerns and inquiries by patients, doctors, and hospital personnel; providing responses commensurate within the authority of the Pharmacy Technician position.
Emergency Duty
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.

Requirements
- Six (6) months experience preferred
- Must possess knowledge of commonly used medical and pharmacy symbols and abbreviations, as well as some general understanding about laws and regulations affecting the pharmacy profession
- Current, Valid State of Florida Pharmacy Technician license required
- No licensure or certification required
