Primary Purpose:

Assist the Occupational Therapist in providing occupational therapy services to students with physical, developmental, sensory, and/or emotional disabilities. Implement therapy programs and interventions designed by the Occupational Therapist to help students develop, improve, and maintain skills necessary for educational participation and independence in the school environment.

Education/Certification:

Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program

Current certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

Current Texas license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) issued by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (TBOTE)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and interventions

Knowledge of school-based occupational therapy practices and special education procedures

Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and sensory integration strategies

Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and recordkeeping skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA requirements

Experience:

Experience working as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant preferred

Experience working with children in educational or pediatric settings preferred
