The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) cares for residents under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical/vocational nurse. This role assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensures a safe and comfortable environment, and supports licensed nursing staff in delivering individualized care in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide direct resident care, including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinent care as applicable, oral hygiene and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs, weight, percentage of meal consumed intake/output as directed.
- Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and position using proper body mechanics and lift equipment as applicable.
- Respond promptly to call lights, resident needs, and changes in condition; report observations to licensed nursing staff.
- Support residents’ independence and dignity, while ensuring safety and comfort
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and in accordance with facility procedures
- Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution guidelines at all times.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a positive living environment
- Maintains a clean, safe and comfortable environment
- Provides postmortem care
- Make routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours.
- Provides skin care and observes residents’ skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.
- Modifies own behavior in response to residents’ behaviors.
- Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.
- Contributes to the residents’ assessment (MDS/CAA’s) and the plan of care.
- Provides nursing rehabilitation/restorative nursing services
- Promote residents’ ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently as possible.
- Assists the resident in self-care according to the resident’s abilities.
- Assists the residents in the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming, eating and swallowing.
- Maintains range of motion, proper turning and positioning in bed and chair.
- Assists with bowel and bladder retraining.
- Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or verbal cueing, and task segmentation.
- Cares for residents with Dementia
- Knows how to respond to residents’ behaviors.
- Allows residents to make personal choices.
- Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with residents’ dignity.
- Uses the resident’s families as a source of emotional support for the resident.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of behavior and functional symptoms associated with dementia by providing interventions and treatments to help reduce these symptoms.
- Uses modification in the presentation of activities of daily living to maintain and maximize resident functions.
- Uses effective intervention techniques to address behavioral concerns.
- Assists with transporting residents to activities.
- Demonstrates effective communication techniques for residents with dementia.
- Provides non-resident care including but not limited to:
- Wash wheelchairs.
- Cleaning soiled utility areas.
- Cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms.
- Cleaning kitchen areas on the nursing unit.
- Performs other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must be a State Tested Nursing Assistant in good standing with the certification board or is a graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into state nurse aide registry.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Computer skills are required.
- Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.
