Part Time Day Shift

Summary

Under the direction of the department Manager and supervision of an nurse, performs a variety of non-professional nursing duties supporting the direct care of patients. This position will also provide continuous observation and monitoring of patients at high risk of causing injury to self or others during their hospital stay. The position safely performs a variety of patient care tasks.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current and unencumbered licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

Preferred:

  • Successfully complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry

Unit Specific Requirements:

Intensive Care Unit

Required:

  • Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry.
  • EKG class completed within one (1) year of hire or position entry.

Preferred:

  • One (1) year experience in critical care setting

Medical Oncology

Preferred:

  • Successfully complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry

Float Pool

Required:

  • Departments expected to float to

Essential Functions

  • Provides for patient's personal hygiene: bathing, oral care, bowel and bladder elimination (to include emptying/changing colostomy bags), nail care, skin care, dressing and grooming, bed-making shiftly and as needed
  • Provides for activities of daily living: meal setup and feeding assistance, ambulation, turning and positioning patients, delivering fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Administers dry sterile and non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, warming and/or cooling devices, applies restraints, and performs specimen collection. Assists with patient care as directed by the nurse within the CNA scope of practice.
  • Performs and records vital signs, intake and output information, height and weight as per unit standard. Reports observations and changes to vital signs in a timely manner to the nurse caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency call lights in a timely manner.
  • Documentation of any and call care provided
  • Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.
  • Maintains good working relations among all nursing unit personnel and other hospital team members through appropriate communication. Commits to the creation of an educational and professional climate that encourages students to attain their maximum potential and fosters originality and intellectual inquiry.
  • Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner. Maintains an orderly and clean environment for patients and co-workers, transports and uses equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific education.
  • Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education events and meets established deadlines in doing so.
  • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards. Provides an accurate report to the oncoming CNA and to the attending nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards within the first three (3) months of hire.
  • Demonstrates ability to expertly navigate electronic medical records and paper documentation to document care provided and also when performing/receiving handover communication as per hospital policy. Documents all care provided, I&O and vital signs in the medical record at time care occurred
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as patient care sitter: Monitors and improve safety for patients who remain a danger to themselves or others despite reorientation, redirection, and other alternatives to having a sitter. Monitors the care environment on a shift-by-shift basis, removing items deemed potentially harmful to patients.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of patient information. Demonstrated tact and courtesy at all times. Demonstrated customer-oriented approach through the expression of respect and understanding when communicating with others.
  • Has knowledge of and adheres to Carson Tahoe Health's policies, procedures, and unit standards of care.
  • Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education and Employee Health annual requirements by the established deadlines.
  • Maintains required license and certification requirements on provided platform.
  • Maintains competencies to reflect current skill level.
  • Self identifies and seeks guidance when encountering responsibilities that have not been mastered. Seeks out and communicates need for additional learning experiences.
  • Appropriately reports and documents care provided.
  • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
