InGenesis is currently seeking a Psychiatric Technician Assistant (CNA) to work with our client. In this role, you will provide behavioral training and basic psychiatric nursing care to patients in residential and community settings. This role ensures a safe, therapeutic environment that respects consumer rights, dignity, and confidentiality. PTAs are mandated reporters of observed or suspected abuse or neglect.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Care & Support (40%)
· Assist consumers with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, toileting, etc.).
· Support independence in household tasks (laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping).
· Provide positive behavioral interventions and promote consumer rights and choice.
· Escort and transport consumers to appointments and community activities.
· Maintain adaptive equipment and assist in recreational, vocational, and educational programs.
Observation & Reporting (25%)
· Monitor consumer health and behavior; report significant changes.
· Document data, initiate incident reports, and follow up per STAR policy.
· Implement temporary intervention plans as needed.
Flexibility & Training (25%)
· Work at various sites and shifts as required; mandatory overtime may apply.
· Participate in training for Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification and other required programs.
· Attend meetings and maintain CEUs for license renewal.
· Special Precautions & Emergency Response (10%)
· Provide one-to-one supervision for consumers on special precautions (suicide risk, elopement, self-injury).
· Respond to emergencies using approved medical and behavioral intervention techniques.
· Competently apply self-defense and hands-on intervention skills.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Certification: Valid Certified Nursing Assistant license (CA Department of Public Health).
· Experience: Minimum 6 months providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
· Additional Requirements:
· Obtain RBT certification within 365 days of hire.
· Valid driver’s license and ID.
· Completion of Direct Support Professional I & II training or challenge test within one year.
· CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and Ukeru training.
· Competency in cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, positive behavioral supports, and person-centered practices.
Working Conditions
· Frequent interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities and severe psychiatric/behavioral conditions.
· Exposure to communicable diseases and clinical environments.
· Must lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical interventions when necessary.
· Travel and overnight stays may be required.
