Assist residents with daily personal hygiene and activities of daily living by assisting or performing oral hygiene, bathing, dressing changes, brushing hair, cleaning nails, shaving, and changing soiled undergarments. Ensure proper infection control procedures are always observed. Verbally interact with residents in a caregiver role, motivate to be independent, be sensitive to moods and memory problems and communicate as instructed with specialized techniques with the elderly. Escort residents to out-of-facility appointments, both locally and out of town. Drive van/bus, lift empty wheelchairs for storage/transport. Assist physicians with exams if necessary. Transfer residents from vehicle to building using hydraulic lift operations. Document all care provided.
Provide hands-on training supervision to newly hired aides. Provide directions to maintain workflow. Be flexible, work as an aid and take on assignments as needed.
Assist residents with toileting by verbal reminders, physical assistance with transfer from wheelchair to stool
Assist residents with mobility by lifting, positioning and transferring between beds, wheelchairs, and stools. Provide support with assisted ambulation with walkers, canes, etc. Assist with body position changes a maximum of every two hours. Take blood pressure, temperatures, pulses, respiration values and document them in the medical record.
Assist residents with eating including tray setup, spoon-feeding, verbal cues, passing between meal nourishments, utilizing specialized eating techniques, if indicated. Assist with facial and hand cleanup after meals.
Keep resident living area tidy and clean by picking up various items of personal property, putting soiled clothing in laundry, washing wheelchairs, recliners, making beds, washing nightstands, and toiletry cabinets.
Apply prescribed safety devices to residents' environment, i.e. side rails, braces, and splints. Respond in an emergency and perform CPR, evacuate residents in fire emergency, perform Heimlich Maneuver and basic first aid until charge nurse arrives.
