The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting virtual-first, multidisciplinary care for patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. This position is responsible for: • Initiating virtual appointments with patients to collect health care information prior to the visit with MDs, Nurse Practitioners, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers. • Helping to coordinate treatment with the patient, family, and the multidisciplinary care team, including contacting other health care providers, generating, and sharing medical records with appropriate consent. • Supporting staff to complete tasks such as vital sign collection, consent collection, recording, and scheduling of future appointments. • Working as part of a multidisciplinary care team composed of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and Facilitated telehealth coordinators to provide high-quality, virtual-first, coordinated care to patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. • Ensuring smooth patient and workflow within the department and assisting the patient care team in implementing the medical plan of care. Competency • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical patients, family, caregivers, and staff. • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures to achieve objectives and meet deadlines. • Ability to understand medical/behavioral health/mental health terminology. • Ability to write clear notes in a patient's chart and assist with constructing patient-centered care plans. • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a new, fast-paced environment. Required Education and Experience • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties of the position • Minimum of two years' experience in a medical setting or one year experience in a behavioral health setting, or a comparable job classification • Prior experience working in behavioral health and/or with an elderly population is preferred • Prior experience working at a startup is a plus Preferred Education and Experience • Bilingual (Spanish-English or Haitian-Creole) preferred • Additional eligibility qualifications • Graduate and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program Work Environment Employees will work from their homes, utilizing virtual tools and software to manage tasks, communicate with team members, patients and other stakeholders. They will also complete administrative duties on a computer provided by the company. Must have access to a HIPAA compliant, distraction-free area to complete phone and video calls. Physical Demands This role requires sitting for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen. The role must be able to lift up to ten pounds.
