UCF Health Clinic Lake Nona is looking for an experienced Certified Medical Assistant in Dermatology. TheMedical Assistant's role is essential during the patient visit: rooming and greeting the patient, obtaining appropriate intake information, giving a report to the dermatology provider on the patient, accompanying the dermatology provider in the room with the patient, and scribing the information from the dermatology provider about the visit. The Medical Assistant also prepares for procedures and assistance, as necessary.
eCW (eClinical Works) and ModMed (Dermatology software) experience a plus!
Education
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant. (1) two-year college degree or (2) completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
Work Experience
Experience in Dermatology
Current CMA license
Work is closely supervised.
Problems faced are not typically difficult or complex.
Explains facts, policies and practices related to job area.
Knowledge
Knowledge of all related medical testing and surgical procedures.
Knowledge of clinical lab functions.
Knowledge of patient charting and recordkeeping processes.
Responsibilities and Duties
Performing patient intake and accurately transcribing patient health history and medication reconciliation into the patient electronic medical record
Scribing accurately and efficiently with notes after collaboration with patient and physician physical exam
Scheduling follow up appointments for patients of dermatology practice
Ordering referrals to additional specialties as directed by physicians
Collaborating with providers to explain procedural information and obtain informed consent from patients
Providing comprehensive education and discharge instructions to the patient as instructed by provider
Preparing and administering procedural local anesthetics
Understanding and maintaining sterile technique, sterile field, and surgical protocol regarding procedural care
Utilizing appropriate knowledge and care of surgical office equipment and accurately logs sterilization and maintenance
Decontaminating, disinfecting, and sterilizing reusable surgical instruments independently
Demonstrating proper understanding and utilization of chemical and biological indicators and creating process challenges
Demonstrating understanding and providing proper wound care and wound management per provider standards
Obtaining photographs of operative sites and conditions as instructed by provider and uploads to EHR
Labeling specimens obtained in practice ensure timely processing of any labs or biopsies
Administering medications according to best practice standards and ensures comprehensive documentation in both EHR and internal practice logs
Independently documents patient presentation and assessment of clinical data in EHR
Independently perform patch testing and can autonomously prepare practice equipment and technology under provider supervision for diagnostic procedures (laser, light devices etc.)
Coordinating medication refills and requests to appropriate specialty pharmacy
Assisting with prior authorization process by communicating with appropriate stakeholders
Routinely assessing supply utilization in patient rooms, restocks appropriately and logs supplies, and escalates ordering needs to practice lead
Initiating patient callbacks pertaining to biopsy results and collaborating with patients to deliver economically sound options for medication procurement with direction from practice physician
Requesting pathology slides for second opinion as necessary dependent upon preliminary results as directed.
