  • Assist in examination, treatment, and discharge of patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients. Clean rooms after procedures, clean and disinfect equipment, and restock supplies.
  • Assist and accompany patients from waiting room. Prepare patients for examination.
  • Interview patients and record/input information into patients'' medical record. Collect all medical data in order to facilitate the physician''s ability to draw conclusions about the patient''s needs. Ensure all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider.
  • Measure, collect and record patient''s vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, oxygen, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and prepare patients for examinations and tests/procedures.
  • Perform routine patient testing; collect and process specimen samples (i.e., blood, urine, tissue biopsies, throat cultures, etc.).
  • Prepare and administer routine medications (oral, rectal, topical, nebulized, intramuscular, or subcutaneous routes); and injections (excluding controlled substances) as directed by the physician. Identify, monitor, and report adverse reactions.
  • Remove sutures and staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and perform wound care as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy at all times. Verify and ensure patient data is accurately documented within electronic systems, and distributed via manual processes.
  • Schedule follow-up care (i.e., appointments, referrals, testing) as requested.
  • Initiate prior authorizations/pre-certifications as appropriate. Counsel patients on process requirements.
  • Perform clinical support duties including but not limited to: phone triage, filing, front-desk reception, data entry, and/or patient registration as requested.
  • Maintain currency with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

  • Minimum 6 months experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Experience working in an academic medical/health sciences center desired.

  • High School diploma/GED Equivalent.
  • Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES Medical Assisting Program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary setting; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification.
