We are seeking an experienced Senior Surgical Medical Assistant to support our plastic surgeons and clinical team in delivering exceptional patient care. This role is ideal for a highly organized, patient-focused Medical Assistant who is comfortable coordinating preoperative preparation, postoperative care, and surgical patient education.
The position requires strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple aspects of surgical patient care. The ideal candidate has prior experience in plastic surgery, dermatology, or a surgical specialty practice and understands the importance of both clinical excellence and patient experience.
This role requires strong attention to detail in EMR documentation and the ability to assist with pre-operative prescription coordination as directed by the surgeon.
Pre-Operative Coordination
• Review and communicate pre-operative instructions with surgical patients.
• Coordinate required medical clearances, laboratory work, and documentation prior to surgery.
• Track and follow up on outstanding medical clearance requirements.
• Ensure all pre-surgical documentation is completed prior to procedure dates.
• Assist in coordinating and calling in prescriptions for pre-operative medications as directed by the surgeon.
Post-Operative Patient Care
• Assist with post-operative visits, including dressing changes, suture removal, and wound care.
• Provide detailed patient education regarding recovery and post-operative care.
• Monitor healing progress and communicate concerns to the surgeon.
• Support patients throughout the recovery process to ensure optimal outcomes.
Clinical Assistance
• Assist surgeons during minor in-office procedures when needed.
• Prepare procedure rooms and maintain sterile technique.
• Maintain clinical supplies and ensure procedure rooms are properly stocked.
Patient Financial Support
• Collect payments for applicable clinical services and skincare products when required.
• Ensure patients understand treatment plans, recommended products, and follow-up care.
Skincare Education & Product Guidance
• Educate surgical patients on appropriate medical-grade skincare products that support healing and enhance results.
• Provide recommendations based on physician guidance and patient needs.
• Educate patients on proper product usage following procedures.
Documentation & EMR Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Ensure all patient encounters, instructions, prescriptions, and communications are properly recorded.
• Support compliance with clinical documentation standards and HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
• Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a surgical, dermatology, or aesthetic practice.
• Strong understanding of pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
• Experience assisting with minor procedures.
• Strong EMR documentation skills.
• Ability to coordinate prescriptions as directed by physicians.
• Excellent patient communication and organizational skills.
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
