The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a key role in supporting providers and the care team in delivering high-quality, patient-centered healthcare within a managed care environment. The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and compliance with managed care protocols and quality metrics.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness for patient visits.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, verify patient identity, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, and medical history in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed.
  • Administer immunizations, injections, and medications under the providers supervision and according to state and clinic policy.
  • Perform EKGs, vision tests, and other diagnostic screenings as required.
  • Collect and process lab specimens; ensure proper labeling and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely charting in the EHR, ensuring all information is complete prior to provider review.
  • Conduct pre-charting and ensure all required documentation, lab results, and preventive care items are updated prior to visits.
  • Participate in care coordination, follow-up on provider orders, referrals, and test results.
  • Support patient education on chronic disease management, preventive care, and treatment plans.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures when needed.
  • Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure all messages contain complete information for provider review (symptoms, duration, medications, etc.).
  • Schedule, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments as directed.
  • Maintain medical inventory and order supplies as necessary.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Performance Expectations:
  • Accurately complete pre-charting prior to patient appointments.
  • Follow up on patient messages and care coordination tasks within designated timelines.
  • Demonstrate adherence to managed care protocols and quality indicators (HEDIS, Stars, etc.).
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and contribute to a positive patient experience.
  • Always ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.

Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of one year work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Phlebotomy EKG and PFT Injection administration (Preferred).
  • Vital signs: 1 year.
  • ECW: 1 year (Required).
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Managed Care (Preferred).
  • Hedis (Preferred).

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Required)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
Physical Requirements:
  • May require prolonged period of standing, walking and bending.
  • Ability to move/lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to move/assist with moving patients.
