Job Summary: -The Certified Home Health/Hospice Aide (CHHA) is a paraprofessional member of the home care/hospice team who works under the supervision of a registered nurse or therapist and performs and assists patient with various personal care services as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort. -The CHHA is responsible for observing patients, reporting these observations, and documenting observations and care performed. -The CHHA will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity and safety of a patient's care. -The CHHA will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the state's Nurse Practice Act. -Specifically, the CHHA will not administer medications, take physician's orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a nurse, such as sterile techniques.

Location: Newport Beach, CA
Duration: 13 weeks, 40hrs/week

Required Skills & Experience: -Diversity – Demonstrates ability to work with a diverse group of people in a manner that enables them to reach their full potential, in pursuit of organizational objectives. -Technology & Equipment Skills – Maintains knowledge of technology, tools, equipment and other devices in work area. -Demonstrates competence in technology skills required for the role, as well as ability to learn and master new skills. -For clinical position this includes equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures and practice. -Infection Control - Follows all policies and procedures in place within the department and organization to minimize the risk of spreading infections. -Initiative – Demonstrates energy, aptitude and motivation in taking on activities relating to personal and work objectives. -Is a self-starter. -Interpersonal Skills - Listens to and understands what others are saying. -Establishes effective working relationships with others, contributing to a climate of mutual respect and cooperation. -Uses language to the situation. -Demonstrates sensitivity and tact, understanding own effect on the motivation, attitudes and actions of others. -Makes favorable first impressions. -Job Knowledge – Demonstrates full knowledge and understanding of concepts and procedures needed to be successful in the role, including knowledge of applicable department, organization and external rules and regulations impacting day to day processes. -For clinical positions, this includes clinical procedures required by department and unit, as demonstrated by unit-based competency testing. -Oral/Written Communication - Ability to speak and write effectively, demonstrates fundamental command of language, communicates well using all mediums. -Patient and Family Sensitivity - Demonstrates support and empathy as well as conveys knowledge to patients and families in a non-judgmental manner that encourages questions. -Patient Safety – Embraces the principle of keeping patients safe by following safety policies and procedures, treating people with respect, and speaking up in Patient Safety related situations. -Travel – Position may require local travel between various organization locations. -Sixteen hours of class room must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training. -Hospice: Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training. -Provides a calm manner when in a patient's home. -Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill and secure with issues of death/dying. -Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired. Required Education: -High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education: -N/A. Required Certifications & Licensure: -Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification in the State of California, in good standing. -Current BLS certification. -Registration on the Home Care Aide Registry through the Department of Social Services, Home Care Services Bureau, in good standing. -Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order. Preferred Certifications & Licensure: -N/A.
