Certified Athletic Trainer - UPMC Sports Medicine (Halifax High School

UPMC is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer to support our growing Sports Medicine program at Halifax High School. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a strong team of athletic trainers and sports medicine physicians in a dynamic, student-focused environment.

Purpose:

To provide professional athletic training services at local high schools by performing assessments, first aid and rehabilitation training procedures as well as marketing of the Hamot Sports Medicine Center through professionalism and good will.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patient's present function and plans appropriate rehabilitation program, effectiveness of treatment, and sets up the plan of care with recommendations to appropriate physician, coach, or parents. This recommendation may pertain to whether the athlete may compete or not return to competition. Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information considering age specific needs. Assists physician with screening of patients with sports related injuries. Treat patients for relief of pain, development, and restoration of neuromuscular function and reports reactions and changes in progress appropriately. Documents in the patients' charts as required, establishing goals for the patient and re-evaluating of goals as appropriate, documents patient referrals to Sports Medicine Center, and demonstrates a smooth process of having athletes evaluated at the Sports Medicine Center.
  • Educates and instructs patients, their families, coaches, and appropriate community agencies to establish the most effective means of rehabilitation. Provides coverage at athletic events as indicated and when needed. Is responsible for providing emergency first aid and care of the athlete at these events and practices. Markets the Sports Medicine Center to local school districts and local organizations. Responsible for the budgetary process at the respective school when concerned with the athletic training program. Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Art degree.
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with students, physicians, staff and co-workers.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize assignments.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to worksites within local area required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Certification as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC. Certified as an athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.Emergency Cardiac Care that covers the following areas: adult & pediatric CPR, AED, airway obstruction, 2nd rescuer CPR and barrier devices (e.g., pocket mask, bag valve mask.CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
