Job Summary
Job Title: Centralized Services Lab Assistant
Work Location: San Francisco, CA
Contract length: Length will be 3 months extensions pending performance with a 3 year maximum length of stay

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for working with the management team and Material Operations & Lab Services team members to achieve operational objectives while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Work effectively in a team to ensure Materials Operations & Lab Services operational continuity and proactively identify procedural improvements.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring internal and external compliance (GLP, DOT, HazMat, etc.).
  • Follow required safety procedures by using available safety equipment and participate in the safety awareness and training of staff.
  • Manage levels of laboratory consumables, reagents, chemicals, and glassware inventory in all areas of operations.
  • Observe proper handling/storage/temperature requirements of materials.
  • Operate process equipment, which includes autoclaves, washers, ovens, and benchtop instruments.
  • Execute glass wash and equipment preparation activities.
  • Clean, sterilize, prepare, and distribute labware and equipment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to meet operational needs, ensuring reagents, equipment, and resources are available for project execution.
  • Pack materials for proper shipping conditions and prepare shipping documents.
  • Prevent interruptions to customer processes by ensuring delays due to warehouse operations are minimized.
  • Troubleshoot operational errors and support operations.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via email, phone, and in person.
  • Attend departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Serve as a contact between customers and Material Operations & Lab Services staff. Effectively represent areas to resolve issues with customers.
  • Be adaptive to changing priorities and responsibilities in all areas.
  • Effectively multi-task the daily workload with assigned projects.
  • Provide routine updates to Supervisors and leads on progress, status, and issues associated with the department.
  • Participate in projects as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment with respect and professionalism.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Complete workload, assigned duties, and back-up tasks on time.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas for cleanliness.
  • Understand and demonstrate proficiency with material handling equipment and relevant computer applications.
  • Ensure that all work is completed by the end of the day. Utilize time wisely to maximize productivity.
  • Meet timeline commitments and inform others as necessary.
  • Adhere to appropriate laws, GNE regulations and programs, and DOT compliance.
  • Be punctual.
  • Meet all compliance requirements for training and complete training records and certifications on time.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED and one of the following (BA or BS preferred):
    • Completion of college-level coursework in biological sciences and/or physical sciences.
    • AA/AS Degree in a related science major.
  • Labware preparation, material packing/handling, inventory management, and/or warehousing experience preferred.
  • Passion for continuous process improvement. LEAN or other Operational Excellence training and experience are a plus.
  • Successful demonstration of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Possess effective time management and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong focus on quality, attention to detail, and delivering results.
  • Must possess good problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Must have strong initiative and focus on safety, quality, accuracy, and be detail-oriented.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling is helpful.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Commit to working 40 hours per week and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to work weekends, off shift, and overtime as required.
