At NorthBay Healthcare a Central Services Technician I is accountable to the Central Service Manager and is responsible for completing assigned tasks associated with reusable medical devices and patient care equipment.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  • Under direct supervision follows approved infection control, quality assurance and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collects, cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and/or sterilizes surgical instruments, trays and packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment for Surgery, medical departments and clinics.
  • Operates equipment necessary for reprocessing instrumentation and equipment.
  • Completes Quality Assurance documentation for each sterilization load.
  • Validates & maintains event-related protocols; disinfection and/or sterilization load parameters & records.
  • Applies a proficient skill level in all CS assignments.
  • Erects orthopedic traction as instructed.
  • Complies with facility safety policies & procedures, including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Takes prompt corrective actions when hazard identified (reporting or removing as appropriate).
  • Organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health will be met or exceeded.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation Structure

NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1-5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan. Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

  • Graduate of approved Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician program preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

  • National Sterile Processing Technician certification required.

Experience:

  • Entry level for new graduates of Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician program.

Skills:

  • Computer skills and documentation accuracy.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique, decontamination, safe care of surgical instruments and patient care equipment.

  • Quality assurance, inspection and inventory of supplies, instruments, and equipment.

  • Ability to monitor the process of steam, dry heat, and liquid chemical sterilization and HLD, and practice infection prevention and safety control.
