Job Summary

Learning Services is currently hiring exceptional students to fill open positions as academic coaches, supplemental instruction (SI) leaders, and tutors. Each role provides a unique form of academic support to ETSU students.

Academic Coaches will…

Conduct weekly meetings with approximately 20 assigned students to promote their academic success Help students develop the skills needed to achieve academic goals by cultivating good study habits (time management, organization, motivation, note taking, effective study strategies, active reading and listening, test preparation, and more) Maintain files for each assigned student to help track progress and modify strategies as needed Complete brief session summary reports for each student meeting Build rapport and open communication channels with assigned students

Supplemental Instruction leaders will…

Attend all class meetings of the selected course, taking notes and following along with assigned readings Plan and conduct four 1-hour study and review sessions every week (2 on-ground and 2 on Zoom) Submit weekly SI session plans via D2L Participate in mandatory training held the week before classes begin and throughout the semester

Tutors will…

Attend all scheduled tutoring shifts Conduct one-on-one and occasional group sessions with ETSU students Review coursework, topics, and assignments with students to provide support with a variety of academic tasks Provide advice and strategies about skills to improve academic performance Participate in mandatory training held the week before classes begin and throughout the semester

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to support and promote student success through effective academic guidance and encouragement. Proven reliability and strong sense of responsibility in meeting commitments and maintaining professional standards. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with diverse student populations and campus partners. Strong patience, empathy, and understanding when working with at-risk or struggling students. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with discretion and professionalism.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current ETSU student with sophomore standing or higher. Must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must have earned a grade of B+ or better in the course(s) you wish to support. Must have a recommendation from a faculty member or advisor (For Academic Coaches). Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate a variety of weekly meeting times with students.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability and desire to assist in multiple courses or subject areas.

Compensation $10 - $15 per hour
