Center Director | Early Childhood Education

Location: Sylvania Children's Center – Toledo, Ohio
Schedule: Full-Time
Program: NAEYC Accredited | Step Up To Quality Gold Rated

About Sylvania Children's Center

For over 30 years, Sylvania Children's Center has served Toledo families as a NAEYC Accredited, Step Up To Quality Gold Rated early childhood program. We have clear systems, high standards, and leadership invested in developing every person on our team. Our mission is to foster the growth of children, educators, and the broader community we serve — and that starts with who leads our buildings.

Who Thrives Here

This role is for a leader, not just a manager. The Directors who succeed at SCC:
  • Are proactive — they close open loops, catch problems early, and don't wait to be reminded
  • Develop people — they coach teachers, build their Assistant Director, and raise the floor for the whole team
  • Hold accountability with warmth — firm on standards, supportive in approach, consistent in follow-through
  • Are relationship-centered — families feel known, staff feel supported, and children feel safe
  • Have an ownership mindset — the building, the culture, and the outcomes are theirs to lead
  • Believe in the mission — quality early childhood education is meaningful work, and it shows in how they lead
If you lead with clarity, develop the people around you, and want to run a campus that families and staff are proud of — we want to hear from you.

The Role

The Center Director leads daily campus operations across all areas: curriculum quality, staff development, family relationships, compliance, and facility standards. You will coach and hold accountable a team of educators, maintain an inspection-ready building, and create a campus culture where children thrive, families trust, and staff grow. You report to the Executive Director and carry full ownership of your campus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee curriculum quality — review lesson plans, conduct classroom walkthroughs, and coach teachers on developmentally appropriate, play-based practice
  • Supervise, develop, and hold accountable all campus staff, including the Assistant Director
  • Manage daily operations — ratios, scheduling, coverage, opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain full compliance with OAC licensing, Step Up To Quality, and NAEYC standards
  • Lead family engagement — conduct tours, respond to concerns with professionalism and care, support enrollment conversion and retention
  • Oversee campus administration: tuition accounts, subsidy documentation, supply orders, and required reports
  • Walk the building daily with a safety, quality, and presentation mindset
  • Build and sustain a campus culture grounded in SCC's mission, values, and Conscious Discipline framework
What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Administration, or a directly related field — required
  • Must meet Ohio OAC Director Qualification requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in early childhood education; leadership or senior teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation standards, Step Up To Quality, and Ohio childcare licensing
  • Strong communication skills across staff, families, and senior leadership
  • A proactive, coachable mindset — you take ownership, follow through, and grow from feedback
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary based on experience and credentials
  • Structured leadership onboarding and direct coaching from the Executive Director
  • Paid professional development and required trainings
  • A mission-driven organization with 33 years of community trust
  • A team that holds itself to a standard worth being part of
  • Opportunity to grow within a multi-campus organization
Developing a community of learners starts with who leads the building.
