Job Title: Fuel Cell Lab & Manufacturing Technician

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Fuel Cell Lab & Manufacturing Technician to support both laboratory research and pilot-scale manufacturing of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems. This role bridges R&D and early production, working closely with engineers and scientists to assemble, test, and improve advanced energy technologies in a fast-paced, clean energy environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Manufacturing

  • Assemble fuel cell components, stacks, and subassemblies following engineering drawings, SOPs, and work instructions
  • Perform fabrication processes including coating, stacking, sealing, alignment, and loading
  • Support pilot manufacturing and early-stage production scale-up activities
  • Operate and monitor manufacturing equipment, furnaces, and test stations

Lab & Experimental Support

  • Assist with laboratory experiments, material preparation, and sample processing
  • Prepare, label, track, and store chemical and material samples in compliance with lab standards
  • Operate lab equipment such as ovens, furnaces, microscopes, scales, and test fixtures

Testing, Data & Quality

  • Conduct functional testing and inspection of fuel cells and related components
  • Accurately record production and experimental data in MES systems, lab notebooks, or digital tools
  • Identify defects, process issues, and equipment malfunctions; assist in root-cause analysis
  • Support yield improvement, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives

Lab Operations & Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab/manufacturing workspace (EHS compliance)
  • Perform routine lab maintenance and equipment upkeep
  • Manage inventory of chemicals, consumables, and lab supplies

Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers, scientists, and operations teams to support R&D and production goals
  • Contribute to process development, testing improvements, and scaling efforts

Required Skills & Qualifications

Core Skills

  • Hands-on experience in a lab, manufacturing, or technical environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and work instructions
  • Comfort working with tools, equipment, and physical materials
  • Basic data recording and documentation skills (digital + written)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical coursework in:

  • Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology

  • 2+ years of experience in:

  • Manufacturing, lab, or pilot production environments

  • Familiarity with:

  • Fuel cells, batteries, ceramics, or high-temperature systems

  • Cleanroom or controlled lab environments

  • Quality systems (ISO, SPC, root-cause analysis)

  • Experience supporting early-stage manufacturing or process scale-up

Work Environment

  • On-site role in a laboratory and pilot manufacturing setting

  • Exposure to:

  • High-temperature equipment

  • Industrial tools and chemical materials

  • Requires PPE and adherence to strict safety protocols

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Pleasant, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
