Job Description and Duties
Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director, the Assistant Deputy Director of the Facilities Standards and Operations (FSO) Division leads, plans, directs and coordinates the day-to-day administration of the adult and juvenile detention facility inspection program. The Assistant Deputy Director develops policies and procedures for the administration of the annual inspection of over 580 adult and local detention facilities operated by local government. The inspection program ensures that local detention facilities are operated in accordance with state Title 15 regulations. This position provides high level policy development and expertise and serves as a member of the BSCC's executive leadership team. The position develops policy recommendations regarding the daily administration of BSCC's inspection program and supports the safe operation of local adult and juvenile detention facilities. This position also develops long and short-range goals to ensure effective use of state resources and ensures agency compliance with state and federal laws.

Department Information
The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) is recruiting an Assistant Deputy Director to lead, plan, direct and coordinate the day-to-day administration of the adult and juvenile detention facility inspection program. This Career Executive Assignment (CEA Level A) position reports directly to the Facility Standards and Operations (FSO) Deputy Director and is part of the agency's executive leadership team. The monthly salary range is $9,755 - $13,987.
This position is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced leader who is interested in working with leaders in local government leaders and related partners to enhance and support the operation of local detention facilities. Local detention facility inspections are core to BSCC's mission and are mandated by Penal Code section 6031. The FSO Division provides leadership to local adult and juvenile detention facilities through development of Title 15 minimum standards, regular inspections to ensure compliance with applicable Title 15 minimum standards, technical assistance, construction plan review, and data collection and analysis.
This position is a great fit for a candidate who has a skill in organizational development, process improvement and developing internal and external partnerships. As part of BSCC's executive leadership team, this position will also offer the candidate the opportunity to be part of the organization's broader policy and decision-making function.
The BSCC is a key partner in California's state and local correctional system. It is a state level government entity responsible for promulgating regulations for adult and juvenile detention facilities, conducting regular inspections of those facilities, developing standards for the selection and training of local corrections and probation officers, and administering significant public safety-related grant funding.
