Contract: Permanent, full time

  • Salary: Starting from £30,000

Location: Northallerton, North  Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, full time

Benefits: 25 days' holiday, plus bank holidays, company pension and other benefits.

Are you interested in the built environment and looking for a way into the construction industry?

Do you enjoy problem-solving, working with people, and learning something new every day?

At Align Property Services, we're growing our CDM team and looking for a CDM Advisor to join us. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to move into Construction Design & Management (CDM), even if you're at the early stages of your career.

You don't need to know everything on day one.

This role is ideal for someone with a background or interest in construction, design, property, housing, maintenance, project delivery, facilities, or health & safety who wants to build a career in a specialist and in-demand area. We'll provide training, mentoring, and a clear development plan to help you grow into the role and build your confidence.

You'll support our experienced CDM team in delivering CDM advisory and Principal Designer services across a wide range of construction and property projects. You'll be involved in real projects from day one, learning how to identify and manage design and construction risks while supporting clients, designers, and contractors.

This can be a development role, meaning you'll gain hands-on experience with the support of experienced professionals as your skills grow.

Align Property Services, who are we?

At Align Property Services, we don't just design buildings, we create spaces that matter. We have recently been recognised for our partnership with North Yorkshire Council for the major reconstruction of Fore Gill Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales. The project was named the Best Civil Engineering Project in the region delivered for under £5 million, receiving a Smeaton Award at the 2026 ICE Yorkshire & Humber Civil Engineering Awards.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of North Yorkshire Council, we're one of the largest and most respected building design consultancies in the North of England. Our collaborative, forward thinking team delivers a wide range of services, including;

  •  CDM & Quantity Surveying
  •  Civil, Structural, Highways & Drainage Engineering
  •  Building Surveying & Project Management
  •  Architecture & Sustainability
  •  Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
  •  Transport Planning, Bridges & Estate Management

From small scale surveys to multi-million-pound developments, including schools, fire stations, care homes, and heritage buildings, our projects are as varied as our clients. With a strong and growing pipeline across both public and private sectors, there's never been a better time to join us.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting day-to-day CDM coordination and project administration
  • Gathering and organising pre-construction information
  • Assisting with design risk reviews and hazard identification
  • Attending project and design meetings with senior colleagues
  • Preparing CDM trackers, reports, action logs, and meeting notes
  • Supporting communication between clients, designers, and contractors
  • Helping maintain health and safety file information
  • Learning how CDM Regulations (2015) apply in practice
  • Building your understanding of design risk management and good project communication

You won't be expected to take on statutory Principal Designer duties independently, you'll learn this over time with full support.

What we're looking for

We're less interested in ticking every box and more interested in your attitude and potential.

You'll be a great fit if you are:

  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Well organised with strong attention to detail
  • A clear communicator (written and verbal)
  • Practical and solution-focused
  • Comfortable working with different people and managing information

You may have experience in areas such as:

  • Construction, maintenance, refurbishment, or property services
  • Architecture, design, engineering, or surveying
  • Project coordination, site supervision, or contracts
  • Health & safety, compliance, or quality
  • Facilities, asset management, or planned works

Desirable (but not essential)

  • NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS, SSSTS, HNC/HND, degree, trade, or similar
  • Experience reading drawings, specifications, or risk assessments
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants, or clients
  • Basic awareness of CDM 2015
