Chip Driver (Night)

Position Summary

The Chip Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of tire chips between Liberty Tire Recycling facilities and customer locations. This position operates Class A CDL equipment, including trailers with hydraulic systems and PTO equipment, while ensuring compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, and company safety requirements. Drivers are expected to maintain professional customer relationships, complete all required documentation, and safely operate equipment during night shift operations.

General Job Duties

  • Run assigned routes until all scheduled deliveries and pickups are completed.
  • Safely operate a Class A CDL truck and trailer in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
  • Complete all required DOT logs, inspection reports, manifests, and company paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Connect and disconnect hydraulic hoses safely and properly.
  • Operate PTO (Power Take-Off) systems and related hydraulic equipment.
  • Verify load information and ensure all shipments are transported safely and securely.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch and supervisors regarding route status, delays, mechanical concerns, or customer issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent Liberty Tire Recycling in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all required safety procedures are followed while loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
  • Report vehicle maintenance needs, accidents, incidents, and safety concerns immediately.
  • Keep assigned truck, trailer, and equipment clean and in good working condition.
  • Assist with trailer movements and yard activities as needed.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Comply with all DOT, FMCSA, and company regulations at all times.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record.
  • Drivers must be at least 22 years of age.
  • Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Experience operating hydraulic systems and PTO equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, safety requirements, and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work night shifts and varying schedules as business needs require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb in and out of trucks and trailers throughout the shift.
  • Ability to connect and disconnect hydraulic hoses and operate related equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely work around moving vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment.

Working Conditions

Night shift position. Frequent travel between customer and company locations. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, traffic conditions, and industrial environments. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety requirements.
