Job Summary We are seeking an experienced CDI Validation Specialist (CDI Team Lead) to oversee, evaluate, and analyze Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) functions. This role ensures efficiency, accuracy, and quality of documentation, supports education and training for CDI Specialists, and collaborates with coding and validation managers to improve documentation practices that directly impact key performance indicators. Key Responsibilities Audit and monitor CDI staff accuracy, data quality, and integrity. Review CDI processes for timeliness, compliance, and accurate diagnosis/procedure assignment. Monitor concurrent queries for compliance, clarity, and timeliness. Conduct retrospective audits to assess query compliance, missed opportunities, and adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS guidelines. Collaborate with CDI Manager to identify and implement ongoing education and feedback for CDI Specialists. Assist in orientation and training of new CDI staff. Review and analyze denial claims to support denial prevention strategies. Contribute to organizational quality performance goals, including auditing mortality and readmission cohorts. Collaborate with CDI leadership to update documentation tools, processes, and workflows. Assist with final DRG validation when discrepancies arise between CDS and coders. Provide timely feedback to CDI Manager on performance improvement plans. Ensure documentation compliance with federal/state regulations, coding guidelines, and hospital policies. Stay current with industry standards, ICD-10-CM/PCS, AHA Coding Clinic guidelines, and DRG classification systems. Serve as a resource for CDI informational needs and coding updates. Track documentation trends and implement solutions for improvement. Provide clinical feedback to CDI Specialists, coders, and validation staff to ensure accurate diagnosis capture. Assume operational oversight of CDI department in the absence of the CDI Manager. Required Qualifications Ba chelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical documentation or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed RN. Advanced knowledge of CDI practices, policies, workflows, and analysis. Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, or related field. CCDS or CDIP certification. Experience with 3M Encoder/Grouper, SMART software. Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement systems and coding structures. Certifications Licensed RN required. CCDS or CDIP certification preferred. Education: Bachelors Degree
